The Buckman Lock was constructed from November 1964 to December 1998 and is the eastern most lock structure within the Cross Florida Greenway.  The lock structure is 600’ long, 84’ wide and 14’ deep.  The purpose of the lock is to lift boats and barges from the level of the St. Johns River to the level of the Rodman Reservoir, 20’ above mean sea level.  The lock is gravity filled with water from the reservoir.  Some 8,501,170 gallons of water are used in each lockage.  The lock is a concrete structure with steel miter gates.  It takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to lock a boat through the lock.
